CANTON – Authorities are looking for whoever illegally dumped auto parts and license plates in the historic West Lawn Cemetery and vandalized headstones in Rowland Cemetery last week.

The Canton Cemetery Association posted a photo about the items dumped at West Lawn, located at 1919 7th St. NW, on its Facebook page.

"Sad that we live amongst such disrespectful, crude and ill mannered people," it wrote. "We are committed to all necessary means to find these culprits and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law. Because of crude people like this all visitors suffer, we will begin locking the cemetery at times we feel necessary. To those visitors who respect the property, we thank you!"

Meanwhile, vandals toppled multiple headstones at Rowland Cemetery on Brad Avenue SE. Canton resident David DeChiara called it "sad, senseless vandalism" in a Facebook post. Volunteers came Tuesday and Wednesday to make repairs.
