Rose wins a seat on Monomoy Regional School Committee in Harwich. More election results.

Bre A. Rose has won a seat on the Monomoy Regional School Committee , according to the unofficial results from Harwich 's annual town election on Tuesday.

Rose earned 417 votes, edging out Ann Marie Varella who earned 348.

Rose is the parent of a student currently in the district and worked in early childhood education for more than 25 years. She is a member of the Monomoy Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Advisory Council and also serves on the Cape Cod NAACP and MLK Action Team.

Varella works in the Monomoy Regional School District and has 20 years of experience teaching mathematics, according to the district website.

Turnout was 811 voters out of 11,759 total registered voters in Harwich.

The other contested race on the ballot was the Brooks Free Library Board of Trustees. Incumbents Joan A. McCarty and Jeannie S. Wheeler, who earned 549 and 561 votes, and Patricia Larkin Murray, who earned 486, won seats on the board.

A fourth candidate, Lynn Slangan Budell, did not win a seat on the board but earned 251 votes.

Water/Wastewater Commissioner Noreen A. Donahue was reelected, winning the seat over two declared write-in candidates Richard "Val" Peter and Robert "Bob" Young.

Select Board member Peter J. Piekarski was unchallenged as he won another term. Moderator Michael D. Ford and Housing Authority member Arthur F. Bodin also faced no competition and were reelected.

Voters approve the ballot question in Harwich

Voters also approved a ballot question asking if the town should be exempt from Proposition 2 1/2 for the town's share of the bond issued by the Monomoy Regional School District to pay to renovate the outside siding of Monomoy Regional Middle School.

The full cost of the project is $2.5 million. About 75% of the project will be paid for by Harwich while the rest will come from Chatham, but the whole amount needs to be appropriated. The bond has been approved by town meeting voters in both towns.
