    Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard

    The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Cape Cod , in effect until 7 p.m. on Monday. The watch also includes Nantucket and Dukes counties and other locations across the state.

    According to the forecast discussion issued by the National Weather Service Boston/Norton office , "Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will develop this afternoon and last into the early evening. Some may be capable of producing severe weather and heavy rainfall."

    Hail and damaging winds are possible during the time frame, according to the forecast discussion. The storms could also cause flooding in areas with poor drainage.

    Sgt. Wallace Perry of the Bourne Police Department said that part of the Bourne Rotary was flooded on Monday afternoon and that officers were on the scene to direct drivers away from the deepest water. He added that a tree had been struck by lightning in the Monks Park area of town.

    Here is the Hyannis forecast from the National Weather Service:

    Monday afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Southwest wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

    Monday night: A slight chance of showers before 11 p.m. Areas of fog after 1 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 64. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

    Tuesday: Patchy fog before 9 a.m. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 75. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

    Tuesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 66. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph.

    Wednesday: A slight chance of showers after 2 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 79. Southwest wind 10 to 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
