    HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Rihanna Cranston's monster game leads Nantucket volleyball to win

    Rihanna Cranston led Nantucket (1-0) to a 3-1 season opening win over St. John Paul II (0-1) on Wednesday. Cranston had 17 digs, 11 aces and 11 assists, while Vicky Todorova recorded a double-double for the Whalers with 19 digs and 13 aces. Bianca Santos had a balanced game with 14 assists, eight digs, five kills and four aces. Lyric Pearl had 11 assists.

    Kiara Miller had 14 assists, 13 digs, one ace and one kill for the Lions. Eva Matthes had 18 digs and three aces, while Isabel Linnell had seven digs, four aces and three kills. Julia Dunton had seven kills.

    The Whalers took a two-set lead before the Lions won the third to stay alive, but the hosts closed out the match in the fourth set.

    In other high school action:

    Girls Volleyball

    Dennis-Yarmouth 3, Fairhaven 0: Vivian Castano had 25 assists and Mariah Eaton had 12 kills and five aces, and the Dolphins (3-0) swept Fairhaven for a third straight win to start the season. Ryann Johnson had six kills and Irelynn Shenk made nine digs. Castano is 28 assists away from breaking the D-Y assists record.

    Carver 3, Monomoy 0: The Sharks (0-1) were swept in their season opener as Carver won 25-17, 25-15, 25-19. Senior Karina Kahlsa and junior Amalia DeCastro combined for 14 assists. Junior libero Meryn Boutin played a strong defensive and passing game, leading the team with 12 digs. The Sharks recorded 10 aces in the loss.

    Boys Golf

    Barnstable 236, Sandwich 256: Cam Levesque shot an even-par 35 to lead the Red Hawks (2-2) to a bounce back win over the Blue Knights at Hyannis Golf Course. Will Doherty helped Barnstable with a three-over 38, and Colin Gleason posted a four-over 39. Luke Greeley carded a four-over 39 for the Blue Knights (1-2).

    St. John Paul II 249, Bourne 269: The Lions opened their campaign with a convincing win over Bourne (2-2) at the Brookside Club. Senior Bella Scioletti paced the Lions shooting a two-over 37 in a round that included two birdies. Sam Scioletti also had a solid day at the par-35 layout posting a 39. The Canalmen's Griffin Kelly and Luca Finton both shot 40s in the loss.

    Field Hockey

    Falmouth 7, Martha’s Vineyard 0: The Clippers (1-0) blanked the Vineyarders (0-1).

    Nantucket 2, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Whalers (1-0) came from behind to beat the Dolphins (0-1). Seniors Suz Peraner and Claire Genthner each scored for the Whalers, while junior Marin Mooney and senior Sam Zadroga tallied assists. The Dolphins held a halftime lead after scoring on a two-on-one break. Genthner scored the winning goal with 7:44 left in the fourth quarter.

    Barnstable 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 0: Sophomore Krissy Taylor had a shutout in goal for the Red Hawks (1-1), who beat Bridgewater-Raynham on the road. Seniors Shelby Locascio and Gigi Detoledo, and eighth grader Aisling Mograss, all scored one goal. Junior Megan Garthee had one goal and one assist, and fellow classmate Victoria Dinn had one assist and was strong defensively.

    Boys Soccer

    Bourne 1, Upper Cape 0: Max Ridl scored the game's only goal to help the Canalmen (1-0-0) defeat nearby Upper Cape (0-1-0) in a non-league match. Mikey Dankert flicked on a chipped pass from Landon Hope to set up Ridl for a rocket goal from 22 yards out. Canalmen goalkeeper Nathan Reynolds recorded a four-save clean sheet. The Canalmen dominated possession of the game and outshot the Rams 12-4.

    Mashpee 2, Hull 2: The Falcons (0-0-1) came from behind twice to secure a draw with Hull. Tristan Mastrogiacomo scored a brace for the Falcons with goals either side of the break. Michael McGrail, Jack Balfour and Greyer Davis were strong on defense for Mashpee. Hull took the lead on 33 minutes before Mastrogiacomo scored from 25-yards out to equalize with 15 seconds left in the half. The visitors regained their advantage three minutes after the restart, but the Falcons drew level at the 51-minute mark when Mastrogiacomo scored from a Yianno Pavlo corner kick. The junior served up a perfect cross to Michael Valios who headed the ball across goal where Mastrogiacomo pounced on it and scored.

    Norwell 4, Sandwich 0: The Blue Knights (0-1-0) were shutout at home by Norwell.

    Monomoy 4, Falmouth 3: Senior captain Ryan Laramee finished with two goals for the Sharks (1-0-0) in the win over the Clippers (0-1-0).

    Girls Soccer

    Bourne 7, Upper Cape 1: The Canalmen (1-0-0) eased past the Rams (0-1-0) behind a pair of goals from Sienna Silva to open the season with a win. Paige Meda, Taylor Simmard and Bella Wolf all tallied goals, while Autumn Gomes and Angelina Fernandez had an assist each for the Canalmen. Bourne took an early lead through Meda before Simmard doubled the advantage with a strike from 30 yards out. Silva scored her first of the match when she turned away from pressure before firing a shot from 20 yards into the net to make it 3-0. Mckinley Wenzel was also an offensive presence for the Canalmen, while their defense was effective and consistent for 80 minutes. Goalkeepers Liv Meda and Ashley Moore saw minutes for the Bourne.

    Norwell 8, Sandwich 0: The Lady Knights (0-1-0) were blanked by Norwell on the road.

    Hull 7, Mashpee 0: The Falcons (0-1-0) lost on the road at Hull to start the season.

    Girls Cross-Country

    Sturgis 29, Nauset 27 : The Sturgis girls edged out a win over Nauset on Wednesday. Maddie Mahoney (19:30) secured first place, while Amina Illusinova (20:10) came in second in her first ever cross-country race for Nauset.

    Boys Cross-Country

    Nauset 44, Sturgis 18: Ethan Koufos led the way in first place with a time of 19:22, while Brad Hagopian was not far behind in second with a time of 19:31 for Nauset.
