Ruidoso ravaged by flash flooding
Just weeks after two historic wildfires consumed parts of the village of Ruidoso along with the Mescalero Reservation, combined with immediate flooding in critical burn scar areas, more flash flooding struck the area this past weekend. The National Guard was activated in the area to help evacuate residents out of the area, with many houses and other properties receiving heavy damage due to flooding. In videos captured by locals, dumpsters, vehicles, and anything you can think of was being washed away in the flooding.
Firefighters help respond to flooding in area impacted by South Fork and Salt fires
On Monday, Fire crews focused on helping local officials and residents with sandbag operations and other flood mitigation efforts, according to a release from the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5. Officials said in an update Tuesday morning that support crews filled 18,000 sandbags and assessed over 4,000 structures across the area impacted by the South Fork and Salt Fires.

State insurance officials on the ground in Ruidoso to help fire victims
New Mexico’s Office of the Superintendent of Insurance regulates the industry in the state and two bureau chiefs are in Ruidoso helping victims of the South Fork and Salt Fires navigate the long process of recovery.
