Chesapeake And Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund Provides $35.8 Million For Ecological Restoration Projects
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is awarding $35.8 million from the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund to 34 ecological restoration projects encompassing 122 sites throughout the state for Fiscal Year 2025. The projects were selected to improve water quality and habitat in the Chesapeake Bay watershed while building local resilience to climate impacts.

Annual Security Studies Program Enriches Macquarie University Post-Graduates with U.S.-Australia Insights
START recently hosted the seventh annual "U.S. Perspectives on Contemporary Security Issues and U.S.-Australia Cooperation" study tour between June 16-27, 2024. A joint initiative between UMD's National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START) and Macquarie University’s Department of Security Studies and Criminology, the program brought more than 20 graduate students to UMD for a series of site visits, lectures/presentations, panels, and networking opportunities. Students had the opportunity to engage with scholars and practitioners in cyber security, government relations, energy/environment, military, public/cultural diplomacy, intelligence, disinformation, and terrorism/extremism across government and international organizations, think tanks, and universities. Additionally, students engaged with START teams, learning more about START research and tools available to them to support their own academic and professional endeavors.

Kaye, a professor at the University of New Hampshire’s theatre and dance department, alongside Director Stephanie Voss, distills the life and legacy of Nobel Prize-winning chemist Fritz Haber to a fundamental question: was he “an angel of life or a demon of death?” This show could benefit from the fleshed-out treatment afforded to history-based productions like “The Diary of Anne Frank” or “Oppenheimer,” which employ a full cast and narrative structure instead of being narrated by those characters respectively.

DC woman accused of stealing, crashing car with ill woman inside found incompetent to stand trial
The woman accused of stealing an SUV outside a D.C. hospital with an ill patient in the passenger seat was found incompetent to stand trial Tuesday. Kayla Kenisha Brown, 22, of Southeast, is accused of crashing the stolen car into a downtown D.C. building in early June. The passenger, 55-year-old Leslie Marie Gaines, of Northeast D.C., died shortly after the crash.
