Negligent Homicide Investigation Underway Following North Kona Pedestrian Fatality
Hawai’i Island police launched a negligent homicide investigation following the death of a 38-year-old male pedestrian who died in a single-vehicle collision in North Kona. Yesterday morning, police determined that a green 2015 Subaru Forester was traveling northbound on Queen Ka’ahumanu Highway south of the Kaloko/Honokōhau intersection, when it crossed over the white fog line and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian, who has not been positively identified pending notification of next of kin, was transported to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Firefighters observe as many as six ignition points at Piʻihana Road fire
As many as six initial ignition locations were found when crews arrived on scene to fight the Piʻihana Road fire on Monday morning, officials said. The fire was first reported at 9:16 a.m. on July 22, 2024. It burned a total of four acres before forward progress was stopped at 11:36 a.m., and it was fully contained at 2:45 p.m., according to department reports.
