Castle Country Focus: Helper Mayor Lenise Peterman Talks Helper River Revitalization
In 2013, RiverRestoration.org laid forth a plan to help restore and revitalize the Helper River, a mainstay in the Carbon County Area which serves as the backdrop for the Helper River Walkway, with its iconic suspension bridge and beautiful city views. This plan was divided into phases to make it easier to manage, with the first phase being completed in the fall of 2014.

“I’m DUN! D-U-N!” (The only part Phillip wanted to pay for!) Phillip E. Lodeserto, born to Albert and Darlene Wilkerson Lodeserto on February 15, 1969, in the rugged heart of Carbon County, embodied the true spirit of a cowboy. Raised among untamed mountains, Phillip became one with the great outdoors and he rode off into the sunset on July 10, 2024.
Carolyn Huff Abeyta Named East Carbon’s Grand Marshal
East Carbon has chosen their 2024 Community Daze Grand Marshal. Carolyn Huff Abeyta, or “Toot” as so many know her, was born in Arkansas to Junior and Corene Huff. At the age of two, Abeyta’s dad was hired on at Kaiser Steele in Sunnyside and the family moved to the small town of Dragerton. Abeyta attended the elementary and junior high that were located in Dragerton and later graduated from East Carbon High School in 1968.
Tire Buster’s Close Price Location Due to Difficulty in Staffing
Grako’s Tire Pros opened its doors in Carbon County in the early 80s. Originally starting out on Carbon Avenue, the business later relocated to Price City’s Main Street. In 2022, the community learned that the business was being purchased by Tire Buster’s Supreme Auto Care, who boasts two other locations in Utah. In 2023, Tire Buster’s celebrated their one year anniversary with the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce, the community and their staff.
Three Days at the Sweetwater Speedway
Sweetwater Speedway in Rock Springs, Wyoming played host to many local drivers in the Carbon County area. The races began on July 4 and went on to Saturday, July 6. Starting in the IMCA SportMod, Shawn Parish won his heat race in the top position. Kade Dimick also placed first in the heat, going up seven cars to get the win. In B Feature 1, Camden Wilson and Jacob Vazquez did well enough to advance to A Feature 1 later in the evening. Camden Wilson raced well min the main, moving up 12 positions, getting the fifth-place position. Kade Dimick followed in sixth, as he moved up five positions.
