The Aston Martin Vanquish has been a long time coming, and today we're finally getting our first glimpse of the production model. It was first introduced in 2001 as a successor to the Aston Martin Virage and stuck around until 2007 before a new generation arrived for the six years from 2012 to 2018, both times appearing as a range-topping grand tourer. Attempts to reinvent the moniker as a 700-horsepower mid-engine supercar ended last year, but what we're getting instead will be more faithful to the original, with a front-mid-mounted engine like the Vantage and DB12.

To keep our mouths watering ahead of the imminent reveal, the Gaydon-based brand has teased the taillight design on the new range-topper, and it's a drastic departure from other series-produced Astons.

Aston Martin's going to reveal its latest return of the Vanquish in a day. After being treated to a sound check of the new engine, we have three more teases to tide us over for the day. Starting at the front, we're expecting a familiar grille of horizontal strakes across a wide intake. However, spy shots reveal a grille that's looks to be a taller and less shapely taller and less shapely version of that on the DB12, spreading out at the edges into a wider bottom instead of cutting inward at the headlights to a narrower leading edge. This could be a move toward a family face, or could be a measure of the V12's voluminous air demands. Moving back from there, a frame in the teaser clip shows triangular intakes behind the front wheels, larger than the trim cuts in the fenders on the DBS and likely able to evacuate more air from the engine bay.

If the iconic film The Fast & The Furious were made today, quips about the importance of having a 10-second car would have less impact than they did back in 2001; a supercar like the Ferrari SF90 Stradale can complete the quarter mile in under 10 seconds, but so can a four-door electric sedan like the Tesla Model S Plaid. To really make an impression, one needs single-digit sprint times, and the Shelby Mustang Code Red easily achieves them. According to a new video from Shelby American, the Mustang GT500-based monster clocks the 1,320-foot run in just 8.593 seconds with a trap speed at the exit of 161.81 mph.
