A third-party logistics firm is upgrading a recently acquired warehouse in Wytheville, which the governor’s office said Thursday is creating 10 jobs through a $575,000 investment.

Camrett Logistics is based in Wytheville and now operates 11 facilities in Virginia, including in Pulaski County, Roanoke and the town of Bluefield. It provides warehousing and distribution services for clients that include the Volvo Trucks North America plant in Dublin.

In May, the company bought the approximately 162,000-square-foot warehouse on Industry Road in Wytheville for $3.9 million, according to property records.

“The new facility in Wytheville will be a distribution center for bottles along with American food that is loaded in containers and sent to American Armed Forces bases across the globe with help from the Port of Virginia,” Camrett Logistics President Cameron Peel said in a news release from Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office.

Peel said in an email to Cardinal News that the upgrade project is “more or less bringing the building back to life” with new docks, bathrooms and offices at the former Donnkenny apparel manufacturing facility, which closed in 2015.

Peel said Camrett Logistics has already filled most of the new jobs and has hired more than 100 people this year. The company plans to grow further.

Last year, Camrett Logistics announced a $2 million expansion in Dublin that created 58 new jobs.

The latest improvements will help the company better serve local manufacturers and will strengthen Virginia’s supply chain, Youngkin said in the news release.

“We are always gratified to see a homegrown Virginia company continue to invest in the Commonwealth,” Youngkin said.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Wythe County to secure the latest project for Virginia. The company is eligible for state enterprise zone tax benefits and state support for employee training.
