State reopens wildlife management areas following storm cleanup

Wildlife management areas across Southwest Virginia have reopened to the public after temporary closures due to storm damage, according to the Department of Wildlife Resources.

The Clinch Mountain, Crooked Creek, Hidden Valley, Stewart’s Creek and Big Survey WMAs had fully or mostly reopened as of Tuesday, the DWR’s storm webpage reports.

Boating access sites managed by DWR across Southwest Virginia remain closed, with these exceptions:

• Hidden Valley Lake in Washington County.
• Claytor Dam on the New River in Montgomery County.
• Laurel Bed Lake in Russell County.

The DWR will continue to update closure information online .
