LAFAYETTE, La. ( KLFY )– A man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Lafayette parish Wednesday night. According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were attempting to arrest Tony Pollard for violent crimes, including an armed robbery on the Fourth of July.
The victim of the robbery spoke with News 10 about the break-in days after it happened. He’s now speaking out about the suspect’s death and his concerns regarding the investigation.
The victim, who chose to stay anonymous, detailed to News 10 waking up from a nap to sounds in his Carencro home. At first, he thought it was his grandmother.
Instead, it was a stranger, and that intruder pointed a gun at his head, stole his truck and two of his guns. A week later, he said the suspect is dead.

“Since then, they’ve found the suspect, tried to serve a warrant, and I guess it didn’t end up going how they wanted it and so they had to, someone ended up getting killed,” the robbery victim said.
He said the suspect, Tony Pollard, broke into his home the night of July 4th. He said he wrestled Pollard to the ground, but then Pollard pulled a gun on him. He added Pollard stole two pistols, and then took off with his truck.
He heard Pollard was killed Wednesday night when deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest Pollard for his alleged crimes.
LPSO said Pollard was under investigation for a series of violent crimes over the last several days, including the armed robbery on the Fourth of July. LPSO said Pollard refused to comply with deputies’ demands and moved in a threatening manner, resulting in deputies responding with deadly force.
“I was happy. It didn’t hurt my feelings. Made my day knowing that he wasn’t around anymore to do that to anyone else,” the robbery victim told News 10.
However, the man whose story sparked the investigation into Pollard has questions.
“What I want to know is how does someone cut an ankle monitor off, and they’re on house arrest and run around all weekend without anybody being notified that he cut it off?” the victim said.
He said as deputies investigated the robbery, they shared information that concerned him.
“They claim he was on house arrest, and he cut the ankle monitor off the night that he held me at gunpoint. So like I said, how does an individual do this, and then a warrant doesn’t get put out for him until Monday? So, you know, somebody was notified, or a system was notified that he didn’t have the ankle monitor on. I guess nobody monitored it, so that’s an issue maybe somebody should look at,” he told News 10.
As for the items he said Pollard stole, he saw some listed on Facebook marketplace.
“My truck was recovered because the car that bought it tried to register it at the DMV in Breaux Bridge, and they put a flag out on the truck and caught him. I have my truck back, but my guns, I don’t know. I’ll probably never get them back,” he said.
News 10 reached out to LPSO about the claims Pollard was on house arrest and had broken his ankle monitor. They referred us to the court system.
