McDonald's Set to Bring Back Popular Chicken Snack Wraps

    2023-12-11
    • McDonald's might reintroduce its Snack Wrap, discontinued in 2016, as part of expanding its chicken menu.
    • Plans to open 10,000 new stores globally by 2027, aiming for 50,000 total.
    • Partnership with Google Cloud to incorporate AI and other technologies in its operations.

McDonald's is stirring excitement with the hint of bringing back its Snack Wrap, a popular menu item that was discontinued in 2016 due to underperformance and complexity in preparation.

This move comes as the fast-food giant seeks to bolster its chicken offerings, evidenced by the success of the McCrispy chicken sandwich. McDonald's USA President Joe Erlinger mentioned transforming the McCrispy into wraps and tenders, signaling an expansion of the chicken menu.

The company's chicken sales have soared to $25 billion annually, matching beef sales and underscoring the growing popularity of chicken products. Additionally, McDonald's announced ambitious plans to open 10,000 new restaurants globally over the next four years, targeting a milestone of 50,000 locations by 2027. This expansion includes 900 new stores in the U.S. and significant growth in Canada, Germany, the U.K., and Australia.

In a strategic move, McDonald's is partnering with Google Cloud to leverage AI and other emerging technologies, aiming to enhance the dining experience and streamline operations. This includes a focus on mobile ordering and the integration of a universal software for digital platforms, including mobile apps and in-store kiosks.

Further diversifying its portfolio, McDonald's plans to launch a new chain of small-format restaurants called CosMc's, initially in Chicago and Texas. These outlets will focus on countering mid-afternoon sales slumps and will experiment with new menu items like churro frappes and turmeric lattes. Overall, these initiatives reflect McDonald's commitment to growth and innovation, as it continues to adapt to changing market trends and consumer preferences.
