Road Rage Killer of Four-Year-Old Boy Freed Twice Last Year Despite Arrests

    2023-12-20
    • Byron Burkhart charged with the murder of four-year-old Gor Adamyan in a road rage shooting.
    • Incident raises questions about California's zero-bail policy after Burkhart's recent arrests.
    • Gor's family devastated; case draws attention to the broader issue of gun violence involving children.

Byron Burkhart appeared in a Los Angeles court, charged with the murder of four-year-old Gor Adamyan, who was tragically killed in a road rage incident in Lancaster, California.

The young boy had been in the back seat of his family's car when Burkhart, aged 29, allegedly fired eight shots into the vehicle. This horrific event occurred after Gor had pleaded with his parents to accompany them to the grocery store. Witnesses claim that Burkhart's girlfriend, Alexandria Gentile, handed him the gun, but she has been released without charge.

The case has sparked widespread outrage, especially since Burkhart had been arrested and released twice recently, prompting intense scrutiny of California's zero-bail policy. Lancaster Mayor Rex Parris and others have criticized the policy, suggesting it contributed to Burkhart being on the streets.

Gor's parents, Meri Adamyan and Levon Tantushyan, were unharmed physically but are left grieving the loss of their son, who they described as a joyful and loving child. The broader context of this tragedy highlights a disturbing trend in the U.S., with at least 284 children aged 11 or younger being victims of shootings this year alone. The incident has prompted calls for a reevaluation of bail laws and measures to curb gun violence. Burkhart's arraignment is scheduled for January 22, and his bail has been set at over $5 million.
