MTA Worker Rescues Shivering Beagle in NYC Subway, Reunites Him with Family

    2023-12-23
    • Blue, a lost beagle, was found in a NYC subway station by MTA worker James Dineen.
    • Dineen and coworkers fostered Blue while searching for his owners.
    • Blue was reunited with his family after they saw a Facebook post.

A heartwarming story unfolded in New York City as Blue, a lost beagle, was reunited with his family for the holidays.

The dog was discovered at a southbound D train platform in Brooklyn by Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) employee James Dineen on December 6. Blue, found shivering and crying, initially approached Dineen and two women who were mistakenly thought to be his owners.

Dineen, moved by the dog's plight, decided to take action. He and his colleagues, charmed by Blue's friendly demeanor, took turns fostering him in their homes across New York and New Jersey. Despite Blue having a microchip, it was unregistered, rendering it unhelpful in locating his owners.

The MTA employees' efforts to find Blue's family included posting his information on the "Lost and Found Pets in Brooklyn" Facebook page. This endeavor paid off when the dog's owners contacted them after seeing the post. A subsequent veterinarian visit confirmed the match through the microchip.

The reunion with Blue's family was a touching moment for Dineen, who related to the distress of losing a pet. He expressed relief and happiness at the positive outcome of the situation, emphasizing the rarity of such happy endings in lost pet cases. This story not only highlights the compassion of New Yorkers but also the effectiveness of social media in reuniting lost pets with their families.
