Minnesota Woman Files Lawsuit Against Dentist for Excessive Procedures in One Visit

    2023-12-26
    • Kathleen Wilson alleges Dr. Kevin Molldrem performed excessive dental work in one visit, leaving her disfigured.
    • Wilson accuses Molldrem of overusing anesthesia and falsifying records.
    • She seeks at least $50,000 in damages for the subsequent pain, embarrassment, and distress.

Kathleen Wilson, a Minnesota woman, has filed a lawsuit against her dentist, Dr. Kevin Molldrem, alleging excessive and inappropriate dental work during a single visit in July 2020.

Wilson claims that Dr. Molldrem performed an excessive number of procedures, including eight dental crowns, four root canals, and twenty fillings, leading to disfigurement and distress. The lawsuit accuses Dr. Molldrem of overusing anesthesia and falsifying medical records to evade responsibility.

The civil suit, filed in a Minnesota district court, seeks damages of at least $50,000. Wilson's experience included a consultation on July 7, 2020, followed by the problematic appointment the next week. Dr. Avrum Goldstein, a Florida dentist and professor, provided expert testimony supporting Wilson's claims. He criticized Molldrem's treatment approach, calling it impossible and inhumane to perform such extensive work in one visit. Goldstein also agreed with allegations of falsified anesthesia records, noting the administered dosage exceeded the maximum recommended amount.

Goldstein's assessment confirmed that Wilson's teeth did show extensive decay, but Molldrem's response was inadequate and detrimental. Wilson later received treatment from the University of Minnesota Dental School to repair and replace many restorations, an effort Goldstein described as economically and emotionally traumatic for Wilson. As of the article's publication, neither Molldrem nor Wilson's attorneys had commented on the case. Molldrem, who has been operating a dental practice in Eden Prairie since 2004, was served with a summons on December 20.

Dentists are crooks especially if you have dental insurance. I quit going to my dentist because every time I went in for a 6-month checkup he said I needed a crown. After three crowns and a suggestion from him that I needed a fourth, I caught onto his game. I went to another dentist and he did not suggest that last tooth needed a crown at all!! Watch your pockets.....I ended up paying half of all the other crowns that I probably didn't need at all. Scammer!

I always had great teeth. Never needed braces etc. I started going to a dentist and I think she did way too much unnecessary work. And people saying this person should have known. Yes I am someone who believes what a doctor tells me I need. My teeth are now crap. It’s upsetting I need what I have left pulled and false teeth. I would love to get implants but there is no way I could afford even one.
