Accountant Charged with Murder of Teacher Girlfriend Found in Burned Car

    2023-12-27
    • Veronica Aguilar, 27, a teacher, was found deceased in the trunk of a burned-out car in Los Angeles.
    • Matthew Switalski, 37, her boyfriend and a former Northrop Grumman accountant, is charged with her murder.
    • Switalski was previously on bail for multiple rape charges.

Matthew Switalski, 37, has been charged with the murder of Veronica Aguilar, 27, whose burned remains were discovered in the trunk of a car in his Los Angeles home's garage. Switalski, previously employed as a cost and schedule controller for Northrop Grumman, was on a $600,000 bail for several rape charges.

Aguilar, an elementary school teacher, was living with Switalski, and neighbors reported hearing screams from the house on the night of the incident. Firefighters responding to a blaze at Switalski's home spent over an hour controlling the fire before finding Aguilar's body.

The couple appeared to be in a relationship on social media, with Aguilar posting several selfies with Switalski. Aguilar's family became concerned for her safety when she didn’t appear for work, and her colleagues contacted them.

Switalski, a bible school graduate, had rented out rooms in his home to other Northrop Grumman employees. He is now being held on a $10 million bail. Aguilar’s family remembers her as a person with 'the best spirit' and 'always had a smile.'
