Chicago's New Migrant Ordinances Prompt Texas to Send More Flights

    2023-12-27
    • Texas is escalating its response to migrant transportation issues with Chicago by charting private planes to send migrants, following Chicago's ordinances aimed at slowing down bus arrivals.
    • The City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs have started fining charter bus companies for not providing advance notice of migrant arrivals, leading to the impounding of one bus and the issuance of 96 citations.
    • Despite these measures, Texas officials, in collaboration with the City of El Paso, continue to transport migrants, having sent over 17,000 people out of El Paso so far.

The ongoing conflict between Texas and Chicago over the transportation of migrants has intensified, as Texas responds to Chicago's recent ordinances by chartering private planes to send migrants to the city.

The City of Chicago and nearby suburbs like Aurora and Tinley Park have begun issuing fines to charter bus companies for not notifying them in advance about the arrival of asylum-seekers. This new policy has already resulted in one bus being impounded and numerous citations issued.

Despite these restrictions, Texas, in cooperation with El Paso officials, is persisting with its migrant transport efforts. Over 139 buses have been sent to Chicago in recent months, with thousands of migrants being moved to various major cities across the United States. This has been part of a broader strategy to alleviate the pressure on Texas border towns like El Paso and Eagle Pass, which are facing a surge in migrant crossings.

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) has taken a new approach by arranging the first flight of migrants to Chicago, bypassing the growing restrictions on bus transports. This marks a significant shift in Texas's strategy, with the state spending over $86.1 million on busing migrants, at an average cost of $1,650 per migrant, not including the cost of these new flights.

The dispute between Texas and Chicago reflects a larger issue of managing the unprecedented number of migrants entering the United States, especially at the US-Mexico border, where record-breaking migrant crossings are being reported. This situation poses challenges not only for border towns but also for destination cities like Chicago, where local authorities are grappling with the influx of new arrivals.

Biden is in St. Croix. The border patrol agents are swamped. Texas is getting bombarded with thousands of illegals daily. Biden could not care any less about this disaster. But he is worried about our gas powered lawnmowers
