    2023-12-28
    • Andrew Sofranko, a 23-year-old man from Florida, was fatally injured in a hit-and-run accident on Christmas morning.
    • The incident occurred just two days after Sofranko delivered a touching speech as the best man at his father's wedding.
    • The Melbourne Police Department is investigating the crash, with no suspects identified yet.

In a tragic turn of events, Andrew Sofranko, a 23-year-old from Florida, lost his life in a hit-and-run accident early on December 25.

This incident came just two days after he had given an emotional speech as best man at his father's wedding. Sofranko was crossing South Harbor City Boulevard when he was struck by an unidentified driver who then fled the scene. He was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Melbourne Police Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident, including the possibility of alcohol or drug involvement, but no suspects have been identified to date. The accident occurred in Melbourne, where Sofranko had recently participated in his father, Douglas Sofranko's wedding to Denall Sofranko.

During the wedding, Andrew Sofranko was seen in a video giving a moving speech, referring to his father as his "hero and guide." His father, deeply affected by the loss, expressed his devastation and love for Andrew. The family is now grappling with the sudden shift from a joyous occasion to a heartbreaking tragedy.

Andrew's future plans included joining the Navy in the upcoming year, a detail shared by his grief-stricken father. Additionally, Andrew's stepmother, Denall, reminisced about his dedication and emotion in preparing his best man speech.

In response to this tragedy, Andrew's uncle, Ronald Kane, has established a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses. The page details Andrew's character as caring and intelligent, with ambitions for a future in the Navy's Nuclear Field program. The fundraising effort has garnered significant support but is still short of its goal.
