National Weather Service Accuses Maine Governor Janet Mills of Lying About Storm Warning

    2023-12-29
    • Governor Janet Mills criticized for stating the NWS did not forecast up to six inches of rain in Maine, leading to unexpected severe flooding and power outages.
    • The National Weather Service counters Mills' claim, asserting that they had provided adequate warnings and briefings to state and local officials about the impending storm.
    • Maine remains in recovery mode following the extensive damage caused by the storm, with efforts to provide resources and assistance to those affected.

The storm, described as "an extraordinary event" by Mills, hit the Northeast on a Monday, resulting in at least four deaths, flight cancellations, and hundreds of thousands losing power.

Wind gusts reached nearly 70 miles per hour, a detail Mills claimed was also not forecasted by the NWS. However, the NWS maintains that they had predicted such wind speeds along with the heavy rainfall.

In response to the disaster, Mills announced the launch of the Maine Flood Resources and Assistance Hub, a platform designed to offer information and aid to those impacted by the flood and other storm damages. The severity of the storm led Mills to request a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to facilitate federal support for the state's recovery efforts. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a preliminary damage assessment, a crucial step towards obtaining federal disaster aid.

6 days before the storm, WCSH was predicting a huge storm with upwards of 6 inches of rain and 70 mph wind gusts. What a lying POS just like her buddy Biden.
