12-Year-Old Charged for Throwing Bottles from Times Square Hotel Injuring Woman

    2023-12-31
    • Two juveniles, aged 11 and 12, threw glass alcohol bottles from the 32nd floor of a Times Square hotel, injuring a woman below.
    • The 12-year-old was charged with reckless endangerment, while the 11-year-old was not charged due to age.
    • The incident caused temporary panic and street closure, with some mistaking the noise for gunfire.

A shocking incident occurred at the InterContinental New York Times Square hotel, where two juveniles, aged 11 and 12, engaged in a dangerous act by throwing glass bottles of alcohol from the 32nd floor.

This reckless behavior resulted in injury to a 24-year-old woman, who was hit on the head by one of the bottles. The incident took place shortly before 5pm on Friday, causing a momentary panic among the public. Some bystanders mistook the sound of the breaking bottles for gunfire, leading to the closure of West 44th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenue for an hour.

The 12-year-old has been charged with reckless endangerment as a juvenile, but no charges were brought against the 11-year-old due to her age. The bottle, believed to be a miniature type commonly found in hotel minibars, caused a cut on the woman's head. She received medical treatment at Bellevue Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.

The noise created by the impact of the bottles led to widespread concern, with some witnesses expressing fear that it might have been an explosion or gunshots. This event occurred just hours after New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced enhanced security measures in Times Square ahead of the New Year's Eve celebrations. Despite the absence of specific threats, the NYPD is maintaining vigilance, especially in light of previous incidents such as an attack on NYPD officers during last year's Times Square ball drop. Precautions include police checkpoints and security screenings for those entering Times Square for the New Year's Eve event.

There still should be some consequences for the 11 year old. He's not exactly a baby here. So there should be consequences to his behind as well
