    • Despite the severe outcome, she is pictured smiling bravely while in recovery, showing remarkable resilience.

Lucinda Mullins, a 41-year-old nurse and mother from Kentucky, faced a life-altering situation following what was supposed to be a routine kidney stone surgery.

Post-surgery, she developed sepsis, a severe infection, which unfortunately necessitated the amputation of both her legs and arms.

The event has drawn significant attention due to the striking image of Mullins smiling despite her condition, vividly captured while she was covered in bandages and seated in a wheelchair. This picture, a testament to her courage and spirit, was released by her sister, Luci Smith.

Mullins was initially treated at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford and was later transferred to a University of Kentucky hospital in Lexington. The medical team had to perform the amputations to save her life. Following the surgery, she expressed her gratitude for being alive and the opportunity to continue seeing her family.

Mullins' journey has garnered community support, and a GoFundMe page was established to help with her medical expenses. This fundraiser aims to assist with her rehabilitation, physical therapy, and prosthetics. The community's overwhelming response highlights the impact of her story and her inspiring attitude in the face of adversity.

In a statement, Mullins reflected on her situation with positivity, focusing on the joy of being alive and the precious moments with her family. Her resilience and strength continue to inspire as she prepares for her next steps in recovery.
