Chicago Mayor Accuses Texas Governor of Creating Chaos with Migrant Flights

    2024-01-03
    • Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson criticizes Texas Governor Greg Abbott for sending migrants to Chicago, claiming it causes chaos in the city.
    • Johnson previously portrayed Chicago as a welcoming haven for migrants during his campaign.
    • Abbott has sent over 25,300 migrants to Chicago since August 2022, as part of Texas' response to the migrant crisis.

Chicago's progressive Mayor, Brandon Johnson, has openly blasted Texas Governor Greg Abbott for exacerbating the city's migrant crisis.

Johnson accuses Abbott of deliberately causing disorder by transporting migrants to Chicago, contradicting his earlier campaign assertions that depicted the city as a sanctuary for undocumented individuals.

During his campaign in March, Johnson had asserted that Chicago would not face a migrant problem under his leadership, emphasizing the city's capacity to be a sanctuary. However, the current situation has led him to blame not only Abbott but also his predecessor, Lori Lightfoot, the Biden Administration, and Texas Republicans for the difficulties in accommodating thousands of migrants.

The influx of migrants has been a significant challenge for Chicago. Since August 2022, Abbott has sent more than 25,300 migrants to the city, both by bus and charter flights. This situation has strained Chicago's resources, with the city spending $138 million on the crisis. Johnson stressed the need for more federal support and better coordination at all government levels to manage the situation effectively.

Furthermore, the article highlights the broader context of the issue, including the transportation of migrants to other sanctuary cities and the political dynamics involved. Johnson, alongside other mayors like Eric Adams of New York and Mike Johnston of Denver, is calling for increased federal intervention to address this national issue.

Chicago, New York, and Denver are sanctuary cities. What’s the problem? It was all fun and games until you have to back up that moniker. No Federal money to support illegals, period. If states/cities want to be sanctuaries, pay the tab yourself. Oh, and tell Biden to close the border and stop the invasion. The whole country doesn’t want this disaster.
