Higher Social Security Payments Starting in 2024

    2024-01-10
    • Social Security payments are rising by 3.2% in 2024 to counter inflation.
    • The average retired worker's monthly benefit will increase from $1,848 to $1,907.
    • Payment schedules vary by birth date and other factors, ensuring a steady distribution of benefits.

Social Security payments in the U.S. are set to increase by 3.2% this year, a change aimed at offsetting inflation.

This adjustment is part of the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA), which is determined based on the consumer price index. The average retired worker will now receive about $1,907 per month, a rise from the previous $1,848. This increase is essential for many, as Social Security benefits often represent a significant portion of income for retirees and other beneficiaries.

The process for receiving this increase is automatic, meaning beneficiaries don't need to take any specific actions to benefit from the COLA. This adjustment applies not only to retired workers but also to other groups who receive Social Security, such as disabled workers and low-income individuals. The report also highlights that the increase this year is relatively smaller compared to the previous two years.

Moreover, the article discusses the schedule for payment distribution, noting that it varies depending on the recipient's birth date and other factors. This structured payment system ensures a consistent flow of benefits throughout the month.
