Against All Odds Woman Endures Four Nights in Freezing Canyon

    2024-01-12
    • An unidentified woman survived four nights in a totaled truck after it fell 250 feet into a canyon in freezing temperatures.
    • She lost control trying to avoid a deer on Mount Baldy Road and was discovered by a passerby, leading to her rescue.
    • The woman, trapped without cell service, relied on her car's supplies for survival and was later airlifted to a hospital in stable condition.

A California woman miraculously survived after her truck plunged 250 feet into a canyon on Mount Baldy Road in San Bernardino.

The incident occurred on January 3 when she swerved to avoid a deer and lost control of her vehicle, ending up in the steep canyon. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, endured four nights in freezing temperatures before being discovered by a passerby, Chris Ayres, on January 7.

The survivor was found trapped in her totaled Ford Ranger, which had fallen near mile marker 3.3 in the Angeles National Forest. Despite being in the thick brush and dangerous terrain, she remained fully alert and was later airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Remarkably, she sustained only a broken ankle and was in stable condition. During her ordeal, she had no cell service and relied on the supplies she had in her vehicle for survival.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department expressed amazement at her survival, considering the severe crash and harsh weather conditions. Temperatures on Mount Baldy can drop to freezing levels in January, posing risks of hypothermia. The woman's resilience and the successful rescue effort, involving firefighters, the California Highway Patrol, and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, highlight the importance of being prepared with emergency supplies when traveling in such areas.

I think it's very nice to read some good news. Too much bad news these days.
