TV Crying Dad Charged with Murdering Son in 1989 Cold Case

    2024-01-12

In a shocking turn of events, Victor Lee Turner and Megan R. Turner have been charged with the murder of Victor's 5-year-old son, Justin Turner, dating back to 1989.

The case, which remained cold for 34 years, saw new developments due to advancements in forensic science. The Berkeley County Sheriff, Duane Lewis, revealed that microscopic fibers on Justin's shirt matched a ligature discovered at the Turners' residence. This key evidence was instrumental in the recent charges.

The body of Justin Turner was found in a cabinet inside a camper behind the Turner home in March 1989. At the time, Victor Turner was captured on camera, visibly distraught, claiming to have found his son's body. However, investigators immediately suspected the scene was staged. The Turners were caught in various lies, including discrepancies about the last time they saw Justin alive. Notably, Megan Turner was initially charged with murder shortly after the boy's death, but the charge was dropped pending further evidence.

The recent arrest warrants were based on the new forensic evidence linking the ligature to Justin's clothing. Investigators always suspected the Turners, noting not only the physical evidence but also their behavior and inconsistencies in their statements. Additional evidence included findings from Justin's autopsy, which contradicted the couple's account of events.

The Turners, who do not have lawyers, are currently held without bail. The arrest followed after they were apprehended at their home in Laurens County. The case has attracted significant attention, with family members of the victim demanding justice for the tragic loss endured over three decades ago.

    • Scientific advancements linked fibers on Justin's shirt to a ligature found at the Turner's home, implicating them in the murder.
    • The couple's suspicious behavior and inconsistent statements contributed to the suspicion and eventual arrest.
