    • The 80-year-old homeowner saved the six-year-old but couldn't reach the eight-year-old, leading to a 911 call.
    • State Troopers Michelle Archer and Keith Cote executed the rescue, and the girl was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In a dramatic rescue in Vermont, an eight-year-old girl was saved from an icy pond by heroic police officers after she and her six-year-old sibling fell through the ice.

The children were playing on the pond's surface when the thin ice broke. The homeowner, aged 80, managed to rescue the younger child but was unable to reach the older one. The emergency was promptly reported to the authorities.

State Trooper Michelle Archer, who was nearby, responded immediately to the 911 call. Bodycam footage captured the tense moments as Trooper Archer, assisted by State Trooper Keith Cote, bravely jumped into the freezing water. Using a throw rope and flotation device, she was able to secure the frightened child and swim back to shore. The child was then quickly transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for treatment. Initially thought to be in life-threatening condition, she has since made a full recovery.

The courageous actions of Troopers Archer and Cote, along with the homeowner's initial rescue efforts, have been widely praised. All involved have been recommended for the agency's Lifesaving Award, highlighting their quick thinking and bravery in a perilous situation.
