RIALTO, CALIF.-- Rialto Unified School Board candidate Mirna Ruiz will speak to the San Bernardino Democratic Luncheon Club at its September 27th noon meeting at the Juan Pollo Restaurant, 1258 West 5th Street.

Long-time Rialto resident Ruiz has been an involved parent for many years and an advocate for her children and many others throughout the District. She has served as the president of the Rialto Council Parent Teacher Association(PTA), represented all the PTA schools in the District, and is now the PTA Treasurer.

Her school board experience includes being the former President of the 5th District PTA and now holding the post of treasurer for the Rancho Cucamonga Council PTA.

Ruiz has been involved in numerous decision-making committees in the District for many years. She is well aware of the issues and experiences families are facing. “I am running because I believe every child has the right to high quality education and has the right to opportunities to help them achieve their goals and dreams,” says Ruiz.

Mirna wants to address the school-to-prison pipeline by seeing that students receive counseling and other programs that will support their needs and mental wellness instead of resorting to punitive alternatives that lead to criminalizing children who deserve love and understanding, not a criminal record that can taint their lives.

    Her three priorities are:

    1. Closing the digital divide, ensuring the District receives all funding available to support low-income families so every student has access to technology and internet services for their learning needs.
    2. Advocating and bringing more resources to students receiving special education services.
    3. Making sure Title III funds for English Learners are spent appropriately and that students are receiving all the services and resources needed to guarantee their reclassification and ultimate success.

“Mirna will advocate for student achievement and help all reach their full potential,” said Attorney Timothy Prince, Esq, President of the San Bernardino Democratic Luncheon Club.
