Fire in Ypsilanti-area home causes $50K in damages
WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A fire at a Washtenaw County home caused roughly $50,000 worth of damages. Ypsilanti Township fire crews were called around 3:30 a.m. Saturday, July 13, to the 2000 block of Woodruff Lane for a confirmed structure fire, said Lt. Pete White. When crews arrived, they found fire inside the single-family home and had to force open the door.

Banning renter background checks draws pushback from landlords, support from ex-offenders
YPSILANTI, MI – Landlords are pushing against a proposed ordinance banning criminal background checks of Ypsilanti renters, with few exceptions. “This compromises the safety of existing tenants, children, our neighbors and our community at large,” said Mike Eller, who said he is a local landlord and lifetime resident. “There is an expectation that we as landlords do our due diligence in creating a safe community for them, and this takes that away from us.”
