Scooped Ice Cream trail highlights local Pa. dairy, business

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The 7th annual Scooped trail is underway in Pennsylvania, brought to you by Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development ‘s tourism website.

The trail runs across the entire state from May 30 until September 7! All you need is a car and a cell phone. There are some stops along the trail you can find here in Central Pennsylvania.

abc27 stopped at two locations, Fox Meadows Creamery in Ephrata and Urban Churn , at their location in Carlisle!

Both shops say it’s a great way to get out and explore where your food comes from.

“It’s just a great time to not only go on a road trip in Pennsylvania but to eat delicious ice cream,” said one of the owners, Chad Fox.

The first stop, Fox Meadows Creamery, where they coined the phrase “from cow to cone.” Inside the shop you can watch the process of turning fresh milk from their own cows into delicious ice cream.

“We like to call it cow to cone because truly the milk comes from our cows right across the field,” said Fox.

Fox is a third-generation dairy farmer, starting with his grandfather in the late 1950’s! “Then my dad, and now it’s my brother and I, so it’s two brothers and, actually two brothers married two sisters so it’s a really tight knit family,” said Fox.

Fox Meadows new summer flavor feature is a spin on the classic ice cream sandwich, surrounded by so many others!

Our second stop, Urban Churn! We stopped at the shop in Carlisle, but all three locations are listed on the trail.

“We love taking inspiration from all over the country from different cultures all over the world and create unique flavors you cannot find anywhere else,” said Kiah Davis, Director of Operations.

A popular classic flavor at Urban Churn is summer corn! Available at all three locations as well!

All Urban Churn flavors are made from locally sourced Pennsylvania dairy, said Davis. They use local PA 16% butterfat dairy and natural ingredients that are prepared in-house.

For July, Urban Churn’s summer flavor goes well with a fresh waffle cone! “Kesar Pista which is a really good flavor that has cardamom, rose water, and pistachio,” said Davis.

Along with their fun flavors, Urban Churn also spends time giving back to the community, hosting tasting events, and more.

“We want you to come here and enjoy your time from the moment you walk through the door to the time you leave and think about us till you come back,” said Davis.
