Fatal 4th of July accident claims the life of a 27-year-old
Thursday, a 27-year-old Red Wing man was killed in a tree climbing accident in Fleming Township, Aitkin County. The man has been identified as Henry M. Cannon. He was celebrating the 4th of July with several friends and was climbing a large white pine tree in a yard on the shores of Gun Lake. An estimated 2” diameter branch that he was climbing broke, and he fell approximately twenty-five feet to the ground.

Grand Rapids Grappler is national champion
Bode Hutchinson from Grand Rapids Grapplers competed in USA Wrestling’s Kids’ National Wrestling Tournament June 27-30, at ImOn Arena in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Hutchinson was crowned champion when he took first place in Greco-Roman style wrestling competing in the 10U, 84-pound bracket and also took fourth place in the Freestyle Wrestling event. Hutchinson was impressive wrestling against the top wrestlers in the country. The Kids’ Nationals hosts the nation's top wrestlers from ages 7 to 14 in the international styles of freestyle and Greco-Roman, according to their website.
John Force recovery update: NHRA legend in neuro care following brain injury in crash at Virginia Nationals
NHRA drag racing icon and 16-time champion John Force has been moved from neuro-intensive care to acute neuro care at a Virginia trauma hospital as he continues to recover from serious injuries suffered in a crash during the first round the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park on June 23. According to a statement by John Force Racing, the 75-year-old suffered a traumatic brain injury among other injuries including a fractured sternum and right wrist injury.

Rice Lake graduates Isaac Rohde and Matt Juza found themselves sitting in opposing dugouts playing in the Northwoods League last summer. It only seemed right for the former Warriors to team up again.
