Carmel school board approves new superintendent contract. Here's how much he'll make

Carmel’s school board unanimously approved the contract for its new superintendent Monday who will take on the role officially starting July 2025.

Tom Oestreich was announced earlier this month as the school board’s pick for replacing current superintendent Michael Beresford who also announced his plan to retire from his position following the end of the 2024-25 school year.

During the next school year, Oestreich will be transitioned into the role and on Monday the school board approved an updated salary for the “successor superintendent” job and approved his salary as permanent superintendent.

Between now and June 30, 2025, Oestreich will receive a base salary of $189,000, then starting July 1, 2025 he will be making a base salary of $210,000 and also will receive a $12,000 yearly stipend for transportation.

Oestreich’s approved superintendent salary is a $24,000 increase from Beresford’s most recent contract, which came out to $198,000 each year, including base salary and stipends.

Oestreich also will have the chance to receive a yearly raise of up to $25,200 depending on his annual review by the school board.

Beresford used to lead the county for highest-paid superintendent among Hamilton County’s school districts but that place has now been taken by Hamilton Southeastern’s superintendent Pat Mapes who has a base pay of $215,270 and receives $13,200 in yearly stipends for transportation and technology needs.
