HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – A lifeguard shortage has been an issue for a few years. But are any of our towns having issues?

    Carmi, Illinois

Officials with the city of Carmi say they have one pool in town, and their pool is not impacted by the national lifeguard shortage.

City officials say the pool’s hours are 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

    Albion, Illinois

Officials with the Albion Chamber of Commerce say back when the community pool in Albion was open, the city was impacted by the national lifeguard shortage. However, it was due to maintenance issues that were deemed as too costly to repair that ultimately shut the pool down for good.

There is no longer a community pool in Albion.

    Evansville, Indiana

Officials with the Department of Parks and Recreation say the city’s pools have been impacted by the national lifeguard shortage. Officials say the pools have seen the impact of this since re-opening pools after COVID.

According to the department, the city has three community pools that are currently open. These pools are the Howell-Mosby, Rochelle and Lorainne pools. Officials note that the city also has the Deaconess Aquatic Center, which is separately managed by the YMCA.

Officials with the Department of Parks and Recreation say the Rochelle and Howell-Mosby pools are highly utilized. Lorainne’s utilization has increased this year with the closure of Hartke Pool.

Full-scale training for Jasper Police Department planned at Jasper High School for July

Hours for Lorainne are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. The pool is open for a total of ten weeks, closing on August 4.

Rochelle and Mosby are open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. Both are closed on Mondays and are open for a total of nine weeks this summer, closing on July 28.
