Craft beer has evolved — and so has Pittsburgh’s homebrewing community
The next time you enjoy a craft beer, thank Jimmy Carter. His signing of H.R. 1377 in 1978 legalized homebrewing. At that time, there were around 100 breweries nationwide making mostly low-ABV lagers. Following H.R. 1377, however, pioneering homebrewers and adventurous importers began to challenge that status quo. Those early sips of something different changed the landscape — even with industry contractions, the U.S. now boasts almost 10,000 breweries nationwide, including more than 40 in Allegheny County, as well as numerous homebrew supply stores, local brewing clubs, and homebrew competitions.

Pirates prioritize athleticism, impact and character in 2024 draft
When searching for prospects they would select in the 2024 MLB Draft, Ben Cherington and Justin Horowitz, the Pirates' amateur scouting director, prioritized things like athleticism, potential impact and character. When looking at this year's draft class, that is mightily evident. At the conclusion of the three-day draft, the Pirates had a pretty balanced product. They chose 11 pitchers and 10 positional players but there was also that underlying theme throughout the class. "We were able to acquire a broad and really talented group of players to bring into the Pirates organization with a variety of different skill sets," Horowitz said. "I...

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a truly special player in Troy Polamalu. Many fans, teammates, and opponents have previously said that there will never be another quite like him. While he had all kinds of talent, the thing that made him unique was his ability to analyze exactly what the offense would do on a consistent basis. The Pittsburgh Steelers revamped several areas of the roster throughout the 2024 offseason. The most newsworthy events came due to excessive turnover in the quarterback room. It appears the organization may be better off in that area with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but there is a lot left to be desired when it comes to who the starting signal-caller will be throwing the ball to consistently. George Pickens is expected to be the top target, but after the franchise made the decision to trade Diontae Johnson, no one is convinced that a legitimate second threat exists on the current roster. Roman Wilson was drafted...
