A roundup of some of the most popular but completely untrue stories and visuals of the week. None of these are legit, even though they were shared widely on social media. The Associated Press checked them out.” CLAIM: A law enforcement sniper assigned to former President Donald Trump’s rally Saturday in Butler, Pennsylvania, says the head of the Secret Service ordered him not to shoot the suspect accused of attempting to assassinate Trump. THE FACTS: Snipers killed the suspected shooter moments after he opened fire on the former president, bloodying Trump’s ear, killing one rally attendee and injuring two. The Secret Service and the Butler Police Department said they have no agents, officers or employees with the name of the person claiming to be the sharpshooter. Following Saturday’s attempt on Trump’s life, a poster on the online message board 4chan wrote that they were a sniper assigned to the rally, and that they can be seen in a photo of two law enforcement officers on the roof at the rally.

Steelers Have Secret Key to Making Roster
PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have a sure fire way of making their 53-man roster, but it takes a "dog" to win the battle they're looking for. During the initial episode of his podcast the Christian Kuntz Podcast, the Steelers long snapper gave some insight to what the secret sauce is to making the team's roster. As a depth piece either at cornerback or wide receiver, Pittsburgh looks to their special teams coordinator to make the call.
Versatile FB Jack Colletto Hopes to Stick on Steelers Roster in Second Professional Season
The Steelers have not really used a fullback as a part of their offense since the days of Rosevelt Nix as the NFL changed since those days. In recent years, the NFL has been all about the passing attacks but within the last year or two, teams like the San Fransisco 49ers have made running “sexy” again.
Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth is all in on Russell Wilson & Justin Fields
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth came out of the gates hot as a rookie in 2021. He caught 60 passes and seven touchdowns in his first year in Pittsburgh with Ben Roethlisberger as his quarterback. Over the last two seasons, though, he has combined for just four touchdown receptions playing with subpar quarterbacks.
Former Steelers exec blasts George Pickens: ‘One-trick pony’
Once the Pittsburgh Steelers traded Diontae Johnson, George Pickens became the clear top receiver in the room, and it seems they will go into training camp with that being the case. While Pickens had a breakout 2023 campaign, not everyone is convinced that Pickens is suddenly a number-one receiver in...

When the big story comes to a small town: How the Butler Eagle covered the Trump shooting
Butler Eagle journalists Irina Bucur and Morgan Phillips had a relatively straightforward assignment when a Trump rally came to town. That changed in a flash when gunshots rang-out and they found themselves thrust in the middle of a huge national story. (AP video/Joseph B. Frederick)
The biggest of stories came to the small city of Butler. Here's how its newspaper met the moment
Butler Eagle journalists Irina Bucur and Morgan Phillips had a relatively straightforward assignment when a Trump rally came to town. That changed in a flash when gunshots rang-out and they found themselves thrust in the middle of a huge national story. (AP video/Joseph B. Frederick) BUTLER, Pa. (AP) — When gunshots echoed at the Trump rally where she was working, Butler Eagle reporter Irina Bucur dropped to the ground just like everyone else. She was terrified. She hardly froze, though. Bucur tried to text her assignment editor, through spotty cell service, to tell him what was going on. She took mental notes of what the people in front and behind her were saying. She used her phone to take video of the scene. All before she felt safe standing up again.
Pirates' Luis Ortiz: Blanks Philly for fifth win
Ortiz (5-2) picked up the win Saturday, allowing three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings in a 4-1 victory over the Phillies. He struck out two. The right-hander continued an impressive stretch that has seen him give up only three runs in 26.2 innings over his last five appearances (four starts) with a 23:3 K:BB. Ortiz may not be able to hang onto a rotation spot once Jared Jones (lat) gets healthy no matter how well he does, but he's making a strong case to be in the Pirates' long-term pitching plans. Ortiz will take a 2.57 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 59:21 K:BB through 73.2 innings this season into his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Arizona.

Pirates' Domingo German: Back with Pittsburgh
German re-signed Sunday with the Pirates on a minor-league contract, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. German had opted out of his minor-league deal with the Pirates last week, but after canvassing the open market, he's elected to rejoin the organization. His new contract contains an Aug. 9 opt-out clause, so he could choose to pursue free agency once again in three weeks if he's not promoted to the big leagues before then. German has turned in a 5.36 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 48:28 K:BB across 50.1 innings over his 10 starts with Triple-A Indianapolis this season.
Pirates' Anthony Solometo: Returns to mound
Solometo threw scoreless innings on two hits and one walk while striking out three in a Florida Complex League start on Saturday. Solometo began the season with Double-A Altoona but struggled to a 6.27 ERA across 13 starts. He was placed on the Development List on June 18 and Saturday's outing marked his return to the mound. Solometo will presumably make a few more starts in the lower levels of the minors before returning to Altoona.
Kingerski: ESPN Absolutely Disrespects Sidney Crosby, Hockey in Top 100
The top 100 athletes of the 21st-century list would have been difficult for any organization to compile, but the Mouseketeer network found a way to slip beneath even the barest of expectations. Of course, everyone would quibble with this pick or that one, how high or low this athlete was ranked. But ESPN, in its true colors, absolutely disrespected hockey to the point of ignorance, essentially disregarding the sport and the best player of the century, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
Russell Wilson Has Chance To Become Most-Sacked Quarterback Of All Time In 2024
The Pittsburgh Steelers are no stranger to having a quarterback who is pushing the limits in terms of their age. Russell Wilson is set to enter the season at 35 years old and come out the other end at 36. Ben Roethlisberger, of course, played five seasons at that age or older. If you look at the number of sacks Roethlisberger took over the last several years of his career, they were quite low.
