Perhaps Luna was merely acting when she claimed to have found the backpack. Luna may have done it to deflect attention from herself and eventually place it on her mother. Perhaps Luna hoped that by disclosing to RJ, he would inform Katie and initiate Poppy's arrest, which is precisely what transpired.

Luna may have been manipulating the situation from the beginning and may have even had a hand in the first DNA test's manipulation. Luna may have killed Tom Howard and then killed Hollis when he discovered the backpack if she had thought that Howard's paternity claims would ruin things for her. Luna may be changing her strategy once more, accusing Poppy of being her lover and going after Bill primarily because of the sizeable Spencer bank account that he brings with him.
