Prince Harry’s Reaction On Rumor of James Hewitt Being His Father

Princess Diana was heartbroken over a tabloid rumor that claimed Prince Harry's biological father was James Hewitt, her riding instructor, and not King Charles, Diana's hairdresser Richard Dalton said.

For years, a few similarities between Hewitt and Harry led to such rumors.

The late Princess Diana's hairstylist, Richard Dalton, has now commented on the dispute and even discussed his friendship with her in a new memoir titled "It is All About the Hair."

“It's not possible,” Dalton said in an interview.

“It was tough... Harry was born a while before her relationship with Hewitt. Furthermore, I do not think it is possible. Dalton asserted that even Princess Diana's brother and sister had "bright red hair" to bolster his claim.

“Harry and the Spencer family have red hair. When Charles, Diana's brother, was in college, he claimed to have bright red hair and that he had cut his hair at the time. He added that Sarah, Diana's sister, also has bright red hair, while her other sister Jane was "more or less the same coloring as Diana."

Hewitt's alleged paternity, according to reports, "used to get Diana very upset," as Dalton noted in his book, adding that Hewitt's "red hair was a trait from the Spencer family."

Two years after Harry's birth in 1984, Diana and Hewitt reportedly had their first encounter in 1986.

According to Dalton's book, Harry was born "long before Diana even met James Hewitt," and the two had a three-year "love affair" between 1989 and 1991. Hewitt and Harry have both previously addressed the rumor.

Princess was ecstatic when she discussed Hewitt.

Dalton claimed that although he was the princess's daily hairdresser and was unaware of her extramarital affair, she was ecstatic whenever she discussed Hewitt. "Apart from possibly inadvertently doing Diana's hair every day, I knew nothing about their affair and was not involved with any of the rendezvous," Dalton wrote.

"We must keep in mind the context in which this all occurred. She was undoubtedly giddy at times when she talked about him because it was all new to her."

He wrote, "Diana was starved of intimacy and affection from her husband, the man she loved." In addition, she was a machine that produced heirs for Charles and was reconciling with the betrayal in her marriage.

Harry’s reaction to the gossip

Harry filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mirror in 2023, citing personal gossip. During the trial, he addressed the long-running tabloid rumor that he was not his father's biological son. Harry wrote, My mother and James had a relationship after I was born."

"This article caught me off guard when I learned that my mother had not met Major Hewitt after I was born."
