(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Carol Stream man has been charged for the shooting of another man following a road rage incident earlier this week. The suspect’s 6-year-old child was allegedly in the car when the shooting occurred in a Lowe's parking lot, according to police.

Carlos Sanchez has been charged with aggravated battery and misdemeanor endangering the health of life of a child.

Carol Stream Police say officers responded to the Lowe's parking lot 400 W Army Trail Road on the evening of June 27 for a report of a man with a gun. When officers arrived they found a man shot in the leg.

Police allege that Sanchez and the victim were involved in a road rage incident that began near Army Trail Road and Kuhn Road. Sanchez is said to have followed the victim into the Lowe’s parking lot where they both exited their vehicles and engaged in a fight.

Sanchez reportedly told the victim “I’m going to shoot you” twice before allegedly shooting the victim.

Police say Sanchez fled the scene and his 6-year-old son was in the car at the time.

Sanches was taken into custody without incident at his home.

“I urge anyone who may find themself involved in a road rage incident to take a deep breath and do not let your emotions get the best of you. Road rage incidents can escalate quickly and lead to violence, as alleged in this case,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in part in a released statement.
