Oak Island house at total loss after fire breaks out
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — The Oak Island Fire Department responded to a house fire at 9:35 pm on 210 NE 42nd street in Oak Island. Initial reports are that the two occupants inside the home smelled smoke and went outside to discover fire on the underside of the home. They were able to self-evacuate and no injuries were reported.
Investigation ongoing after missing woman found dead in Brunswick Co.
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) - An investigation continues after authorities found a missing woman dead near Bolivia, according to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office. Per the BCSO, authorities received a call Tuesday morning, July 16, in reference to a woman who may be missing in a wooded area near Colonial Landing in Bolivia.

North Carolina education officials are recommending that the state end a testing requirement for college students who want to become teachers. Typically, for a college sophomore to be admitted into a program at their university to complete a degree in education, they have to first pass a test called the Praxis Core that’s designed to test math, reading and writing skills.

Excel Interior Door relocating operations to North Carolina
RALEIGH, N.C. — Excel Interior Door, a manufacturer of residential doors, is leaving its Alabama roots to relocate in Winston-Salem, N.C. The company plans to invest $10.5 million on a new manufacturing facility and administrative office. Excel Interior Door received a performance-based grant of $75,000 from the One North Carolina Fund to help with its relocation to North Carolina. The One NC Fund provides financial assistance to local governments to help attract economic investment and create jobs.
