The Foothills West Junior Legion Team closed the regular season on a high note by winning six-straight games.

Post 123 outscored opponents 61-27 during its recent winning streak. Foothills scored at least seven runs in all six wins and recorded double-digit runs in four of those games.

The sixth victory in Foothills’ win streak came in the team’s regular season finale on June 26, in which West posted another lopsided scoreline by taking down Carroll County 10-1.

Will Pardue led West with three hits against Carroll, while teammate Landon Johnson added two and five players finished with one each: Davin Weatherford, Landon Gallimore, Bryson Grey, Ian Hooker and Fletcher Gallimore. Pardue, Hooker and Landon Gallimore each recorded triples in the victory.

Johnson led Foothills with two RBIs, while four of his teammates had one each: Grey, Weatherford, Landon Gallimore and Garrett Higgins.

Foothills’ Jayle Bryant picked up the win on the mound. In four innings pitched, Bryant threw seven strikeouts, two bases on balls, and allowed one run on five hits. Grey threw the final three innings and finished with three strikeouts, one base on balls and two hits allowed.

Ending the regular season with a bang

Bryant threw the first two of his seven strikeouts in the top of the first inning. Carroll went three up three down in the first, and only surpassed four batters in the same inning twice in Wednesday’s game.

Pardue led off the bottom of the first with a ground ball to left field that earned a single, but was later picked off at first base. Weatherford was then hit by a pitch before stealing second base, then made it all the way back to the plate on an error. Another Carroll error allowed Johnson to get on base, but he didn’t stay on long as Landon Gallimore hit an RBI triple to score his fellow Landon.

Landon Gallimore later stole home for West’s third first-inning run.

Dalton Busick recorded Carroll’s first hit by doubling in the top of the second inning; Busick accounted for three of the team’s seven total hits, but never advanced past second base. When Carroll got on the board for the first and only time, the run was scored by Daniel Miller via an RBI double from Ayden Edwards.

Foothills responded to the Carroll run with four of its own.

Pardue sent the first pitch in the bottom of the third inning to the 333 feet sign in right field to earn a triple. Weatherford scored Pardue with a ground ball to left field, then Weatherford himself scored on a hit-plus-error combo on a bunt from Johnson. Landon Gallimore followed Landon Johnson’s bunt with one of his own — a sacrifice that moved Johnson to third — then a ground ball hit by Grey brought Johnson back to the plate for run No. 6.

Hooker and Kasen White were each walked to join Grey on base, then Grey scored on a ground out from Higgins.

Carroll put three runners on base in the fourth inning after hitting two singles and earning one base on balls. Foothills thwarted Carroll’s scoring plans by tagging one runner out in a pickle, then Bryant struck out back-to-back batters to end the half-inning.

Foothills also went scoreless in the fourth inning, but got back to its scoring ways in the fifth. Hooker hammered a fly ball to the gap in right-center field to earn a triple. Carroll committed an error when attempting to throw Hooker out at third, which allowed Hooker to head home for his team’s eighth run.

Foothills later scored its ninth and 10th runs when Johnson hit a 2RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning.
