UNION TWP. ‒ An FBI agent was involved in a shooting on Monday in Carroll County that resulted in the death of one person.

In an emailed statement, FBI spokeswoman Susan Licate said the agency is reviewing the shooting that occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. Monday in Carrollton.

"One subject was wounded and transported to a local hospital for further treatment where they succumbed to their injuries," she wrote.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the FBI had not disclosed the exact location of the shooting, or the name, age and gender of the person who died.

Two law enforcement officers were at a residential property in the 1000 block of Perron Road SE on Tuesday morning.

They declined to answer questions and referred inquiries to Licate.

"As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide,” she said in an emailed message.

"The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously," Licate wrote. "In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI’s Inspection Division."

In an emailed statement, Licate said the incident occurred during "court-authorized law enforcement activity."

Carroll County Sheriff Calvin Graham referred questions to the FBI.

A private ambulance company transported the fatally injured person from the scene.

The 1000 block of Perron Road is about six miles south of the village of Carrollton in Union Township.

No crime scene tape or barricades were in place late Tuesday morning. The area is heavily wooded and sparsely populated. Most of the land is in agricultural use.
