Jack Kann, 76, of Flushing, formerly of Mio
Jack Stuart Kann, born in Grayling on April 25th, 1948 to Elaine and Bernard Kann of Red Oak, Michigan. Jack was a warrior ‘til the end, fighting off brain cancer for over 3 years with strength, dignity, and humor. His loving partner, Kathy Coates was by his side the entire time, encouraging him, sharing their faith together as well as their enjoyment of music. Jack went to be with his loving savior on July 17, 2024 at the age of 76.

Two people escape house fire with pets in Hemlock early Tuesday
HEMLOCK, Mich. (WJRT) - Two people and several pets escaped a house fire in the Hemlock area early Tuesday morning. Fire crews were called to the home in the 16000 block of Doyle Road at around 3:10 a.m. The occupants escaped the residence before fire crews arrived and found smoke.
Fame blooms from Munger artist’s island scene
The annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival was held last month celebrating the flowers famous on the island. This year one local artist had a hand in promoting the festival. Emily Ryers of Munger had her artwork chosen during a contest used to create a poster promoting the Lilac Festival. Ryers beat out 74 other contestants for the opportunity to have her poster used for festival promotion. The art was also used on a beer can that was sold on the island, and the winner got $1,000. The top 20 entries were chosen by jurors based on rules for the competition. Of those top 20 the jurors then chose the winners. This wasn’t the first time that Ryers tried out for the competition either.

Bay City OK’s parking ban on West Side road citing safety concerns
BAY CITY, MI – Parking is no longer allowed on John F Kennedy Drive between the Veterans Memorial Bridge and the north side of the boat ramp access road. The Bay City Commission on Monday, July 15, approved a traffic control order prohibiting parking in the designated area, citing safety concerns.
