CARO — A teenage driver has pleaded no contest to a crime after police say he lost control of his vehicle on a slushy M-81, striking a police car and injuring a deputy. Deven J. Wilson, 18, of Reese pleaded no contest last week to attempted failure to use due care when passing a stationary emergency vehicle causing injury to emergency personnel.

BAY CITY, MI – Local and state agencies are planning to team up with the assistance of federal grants to finance a series of road repairs on the city’s North Side. The city and the Bay County Road Commission are planning to partner – along with the use of state and federal grants – to complete concrete pavement repairs on Wilder Road and Truman Parkway as well as to repair concrete joints and place an asphalt overlay on Tiernan Road.
Thief who stole gold coins sent to jail
CARO — A 33-year-old Vassar man has been sent to jail for nine months for stealing about 50 gold coins from his neighbor. Dennis R. Robstad also was ordered to pay $1,266 in fees, costs and fines in connection with two crimes he committed on Dec. 13, 2023 in Vassar Township, south of the city of Vassar.

Hemlock House Fire Under Investigation
Crews from the Richland Township Fire Department responded to a house fire in Hemlock Tuesday. The fire was reported in the 16000 block of Doyle Road at about 3:10 A.M.. According to officials, the fire appears to have started in the attic of the home. The occupants, two residents and a number of pets, were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived on the scene. No injuries were reported.
