Dallas parking meter price hike takes effect Tuesday
DALLAS — A new minimum on-street parking meter rate in the city of Dallas took effect on Tuesday. The cost at most parking meters around the city will now be a minimum of $1 an hour, the city said. These increased rates will be implemented on individual meters over the next several weeks.

Flower Mound’s new budget, lower property tax rate go into effect
The town of Flower Mound’s budget for Fiscal Year 2024-25, which includes the town’s lowest property tax rate ever, went into effect Tuesday. At a meeting on Sept. 16, the Flower Mound Town Council passed the new budget of more than $352 million. Priorities for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, according to a town news release, focus on public safety with the addition of a fourth medic team and ambulance, as well as expanding the town’s School Resource Officer program; maintaining and growing the Town’s award-winning parks, trails, recreational amenities, and special events; remaining competitive in the local marketplace by including a merit increase and market adjustment for employees; and building and maintaining quality infrastructure with several critical capital improvement projects and nine new Public Works positions.
Over 75,000 people hit the streets of downtown historic McKinney for Oktoberfest
MCKINNEY — Tens of thousands of people experienced a German-themed celebration in the heart of downtown McKinney this weekend for the city's Oktoberfest. And organizers are already planning to make it even better next year.A record of more than 75,000 people came out for a carnival, entertainment, and lots of German food and beer. The three-day celebration included games, over 75 vendors, and pups decked out in German attire for the wiener dog races. It's expected to have a big economic impact on Collin County and bring in visitors from across North Texas.Andrew Jones, cultural district director for McKinney Oktoberfest, said the celebration featured new activities this year for children."For kids, launched our kinder-corner this year, a safe play area for three and under. We always have a great carnival out. We have crafts and games," Jones said.Organizers plan to make Oktoberfest even bigger next year with more free, fun family activities.
