    except for normal wear items like tires , belts and brakes a vehicle should last at least 100,000 miles reliably. If they can't make that happen, then they need better engineering, parts and quality control. And yes, the owner of the vehicle should do proper oil changes. And while most fluids will hold up well for 100,000 miles I would still recommend antifreeze flush and refill and a transmision drain and refill at 50,000 miles
