A 42-year-old woman who ran across the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway in the Carson area and was struck and killed by a semitractor-trailer was identified Thursday by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner.

The woman was struck at 9:32 p.m. Wednesday near the Carson Street off-ramp on the border of Carson and the unincorporated West Carson area, California Highway Patrol Officer Sean Lough told City News Service.

The woman was found lying in the middle lanes of the freeway and pronounced dead at the scene, Lough said.

She was later identified by the county medical examiner as Rebecca Chavez.

The driver of the semitractor-trailer remained at the scene and is cooperating with officers, Lough said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert for the closure of two lanes of the freeway while officers investigated the cause of the crash.
