Tupuola's journey to the Olympics is a testament to his dedication and love for the sport. He began playing rugby at the age of 13 with the Southbay Spartans in Carson, CA. He also played football and basketball in high school. He earned Collegiate All-American honors in both sevens and fifteens at Notre Dame College in South Euclid, Ohio.

According to Team USA , Tupuola made his national team debut on home soil at the HSBC USA Sevens in 2019, where the USA won their second-ever gold medal on home soil. He was later named to the 2024 Paris Olympic roster.
