Texas DPS seizes over ten pounds of suspected cocaine in Carson County traffic stop
CARSON COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) seized more than ten pounds of suspected cocaine after a traffic stop in Carson County.On Thursday, July 4, at approximately 5:39 p.m., a DPS Trooper stopped a 2024 Ford Edge traveling east on I-40 near Groom for a traffic violation. During the stop, the Trooper allegedly discovered five tape-wrapped bricks of cocaine concealed inside the trunk area, according to a statement from the DPS.DPS Special Agents assisted with the investigation. The driver, 58-year-old Patris Mundy, and passenger, 44-year-old Danelle Hopkins, both of Indianapolis, Indiana, were arrested and booked into the Carson County Jail for felony possession of a controlled substance. The drugs were reportedly being transported from Phoenix, Arizona, to an unknown destination in Indiana.

At about 8:25 a.m. Thursday, July 4, a 2021 International (straight truck) was traveling east in the left lane of I-40, approximately a quarter mile north of Groom, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS). For an unknown reason, the driver failed to drive in a single lane, and the truck drifted off the roadway, traveling partially into the center median and striking the north side guardrail, flattening all three tires on its left side.
