Deputies of the Carter County Sheriff’s Office are searching for an inmate who walked away from a jail work detail on Thursday.

Billy Fletcher, 43, of Butler, was assigned to an inmate work detail on the grounds of the Carter  County Detention Center. When officers checked his assigned work area and found that Fletcher was not there, a search of the grounds was conducted, and it was determined that Fletcher had walked away from the detention center.

Fletcher was booked into the Carter County Detention Center in August of 2024, and was serving a three-year sentence after violating his probation.

Fletcher is a white, male subject, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing approximately 230 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on both arms.

Anyone with any information regarding Fletcher’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Carter County Sheriff’s Office at 423-542-1845.

The incident is still under investigation at this time and charges are pending.
