Carter County Sheriff: Body found near Butler in Johnson County after search
A spokesperson for the Carter County sheriff’s office said midday Saturday, Johnson County deputies found human remains in the Butler community. The remains were sent for a forensic examination and identification in Johnson City. A spokesperson said the remains were found Saturday afternoon as part of a joint search between the Johnson and Carter County sheriff’s offices and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Carter County Sheriff Mike Fraley said the investigation is ongoing, and more details would be released when available.
Carter County Car Club will hold its annual all-day car show next Saturday
ELIZABETHTON — Next Saturday, July 13,will be the annual all-day car show on Elk Avenue in Downtown Elizabethton. Lots of car fans and car owners are getting ready. Jim Bass, president of the car club, said there will be lots of entries this year. He said pre-registration to enter cars in the show are already being accepted. Pre registration fee is $15. People can also register on the day of the show for $20. For those who are pre-registered, the first 300 to enter on Saturday will receive a free dash plaque. Pre-registration may be done by mail. Make checks to Carter County Car Club and mail to Grantz, 304 Daytona Place, Elizabethton TN, 37643. Include the year, make and model of vehicle being registered.
Friends believe body found is Birchfield's, but hope he is alive
ELIZABETHTON — The search for Victor Birchfield by the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is continuing, but there are many of Birchfield’s family members and close friends who have the awful feeling that the search may have come to an end when a body was found in Butler on Saturday.
